Touching the hearts and minds of children in Indonesia’s most underserved communities by letting them experience first hand the joy of music. We improve the lives of these children by sharing our knowledge of music.
Music is our hope for creating a better world. Music represents all that: joy, peace, hope, integration and strength.
Inspired by El Sistema from Venezuela, Strings in Action is a movement that started in 2015 at the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), which is dedicated to improve the lives of children from Indonesian communities in need by sharing our skills, knowledge and passion for music. Due to its growth and achievements SiA became a foundation in 2019. The SiA foundation operates thanks to its sponsors and donors, and it is run by a board. The organization is still connected to JIS via the SiA service club which is run by students.
The goal of this project is to promote musical education through the formation of string orchestras at centres around Jakarta for children that would not otherwise have access to music education. We try to give the best music-strings education we can to these children, and for this aim, we provide all the necessary learning resources (instruments, stands, books, etc). We believe that this is crucial because it allows an opportunity for the children to practice the skills needed to correctly learn how to play any musical instrument.
As a team, we reinforce musical education and facilitate the social integration of children from disadvantaged by giving them the opportunity to express their passion for music.
